Local companies benefit from One Waterside Place
Derbyshire companies are already benefitting from the new One Waterside Place office building at Chesterfield Waterside.
Renishaw-based Green Piling and family-owned firm NRA Roofing & Flooring Services Ltd based in Ilkeston, have both been awarded contracts during the construction phase of the Grade A office accommodation. They are just two of several Derbyshire businesses working on the £340m regeneration scheme.
Construction of the Grade A office accommodation is progressing well and tenants for a significant element of the available space have already been secured – BHP Chartered Accountants. Firm interest is also being shown by potential occupiers in the remaining space.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of the council, said: “This is a flagship scheme in our wider regeneration plans across the borough, and providing local job and contract opportunities as part of that is a key part of our approach with partners. We’re pleased to see work progressing well.”
Construction of the steel frame for the seven-storey office block was completed in July by Britcon (UK) Ltd. The steel framework will now be clad in a brickwork skin.
Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group Plc, the company leading Chesterfield Waterside, said: “As a local lad myself, giving these great companies an opportunity to be involved in the scheme is really important to me. We have some of the best businesses based right here on our doorstep, in the heart of the country, and I am delighted that so many are already benefitting from the scheme.”
The office block is part of a wider business and residential offering in phase one of Basin which comprises offices, a hotel, multi-storey car park and build-to-rent apartments, which will be centred around the new canal basin and pedestrianised public realm which will be home to the renowned Dame Barbara Hepworth sculpture.
Construction of the new high quality office block was brought forward amidst the pandemic in September last year thanks to funding from Chesterfield Borough Council. At the time Cllr Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “These are uncertain times, but we must not stand still. We must continue to invest in this and other growth projects if we are to meet the Council’s objectives of making Chesterfield a thriving borough and improve the quality of people’s lives. One Waterside Place is just the start of what we believe will be a very special journey for the people of this great town and borough.”
As well as the office block, construction is well underway on the residential housing element at Waterside Quarter which forms part of The Park character area of Chesterfield Waterside.
Developer Avant Homes is reporting excellent interest from buyers in the development. The showhomes opened in August 2020 and within only six months nearly 20% of the 173 homes at Waterside Quarter had already been sold. A number of the two, three and four bedroom homes are now occupied at the development.
